Onboarding and Game Over

I'm so pleased to see that 10 people have played my game so far. That's 10 more than I had expected so thank y'all! This is giving me extra motivation to keep working on the prototype.

I just uploaded a minor update including some basic rule explanations at the start of the game as well as Game Over screens. One of the few things I know about game design is that onboarding is extremely important. It's the only part of the game that every player will see, and it's the developer's best opportunity to convince players to give the game a chance.

Full changelog:

  • You get a rules explanation panel at the start of the game. It's a big block of text right now and I want to make a better onboarding experience eventually, but for now this'll have to do unless you tell me the game is way too confusing / overwhelming on first play.
  • When you lose, you're now told that you lost. Mind-blowing I know right.
  • When you manage to win all 8 races, you now get a game-winning message. Before that, you could play until the game softly crashed out and weren't told you have completed it.

I think winning all 8 races is almost impossible right now, but I've managed to do it a couple times. I wonder if anyone else can do it too?
